In 2007, a Canadian nurse began injecting elderly patients with lethal doses of insulin. Years later, she claimed while that it felt like “God” or “the devil” had instructed her to kill. Dealing with topics of religious conditioning, substance abuse, mental health conditions, and queerness, Elizabeth Wettlaufer’s story required utmost sensitivity and an ability to convey context without allowing the listener to view it as an excuse for senseless murder.
