IP Disputes: Copyright & Fanfiction

In 2022, a feud broke out in the fanfiction community. And it started when a fanfiction writer turned published author issued DMCA takedowns to another author, publishing wolf-kink literature. The author who issued the takedowns believed she creatively invented heterosexual wolf-kink lore, a genre previously dominated by queer relationships between wolves and wolf-like charracters.

Fan fiction is inherently derivative. But what happens when parts of it make it to real life print? This story raises questinos surrounding IP and online writing communities.
